3rd March – Sat – Shakespeare @ Wairere, 5pm. Essential Theatre returns to perform a new production of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ in the Edna Walling-designed gardens of Mark and Fenella Ritchie.
Gates open 3pm to wander the gardens and picnic on the lawns.

10th March – Sat – Labour Day Weekend - Merrijig Rodeo - McCormacks Lane, Merrijig 3723. Showcasing Australia’s best rough riders competing in a thrilling spectacle against the back drop of the Victorian High Country, only 30 minutes drive from Goughs Bay.
Gates open 2.00 pm and Main event starts at 5.30 pm

10th March – Sat - Rock N Roll in Mansfield at Mansfield Golf Club 24 Kidston Parade, Mansfield, from 7.30pm, with Denis Tucker, former ‘Jigsaw’ band member. Come and learn to rock, dance or just listen. Cost: $10 donation per person. Meals available at Benjamin’s Restaurant Ph 03 5775 2422

17th & 18th March – Sat & Sun – Tour de Flavour A celebration of food, wine, art and cycling, the Tour de Flavour is a 2 day cycling event that also includes a range of activities and events around Mansfield Shire including food and wine tasting, jazz and a health and well being expo. for more information check out the website Tour de Flavour

And the Mansfield Zoo is always open which is a great day out for the kids with hand feeding and plenty to see, also the evening lion feeding show is quite spectacular.

After another great summer of rainfall is coming to a close, the Lakes Water level is still riding high at 92.62%.

Which is down from the 99.9% in October last year. Which saw the first use of the spillway since 1996 – 15 years ago.

All this means that this coming Easter Holiday season is going to be a great time to get out the boat again and take advantage of the amazing scenery around the lake.

Mt Buller has had a nice big dump of snow and the ski season is in full swing. All lifts are operating and the weather has been perfect for a great day in the snow.

Lake Eildon is currently sitting at 90.3% capacity and there is plenty of trout being caught on lures and we have had a few sunny days which have been great to get out on the water.

With the weather cooling down it is a timely reminder that  winter and the snow season is just around the corner it is worth remembering that we are only 40 minutes drive from the Mount Buller and Mount Sterling snow fields. If you save on your accommodation you can spend more time on the Snow.

The weather is cooling down and we lit our fire for the first time tonight but the fish are still biting with almost everyone who wets a line catching Redfin. There have also been the odd Yellow Belly and the Trout are starting to make an appearance. With winter just around the corner the Trout will start to feed building their reserves for the spawn and I expect this season to be a bumper trout season with the return to higher water levels.

Unfortunately Goulburn Murray Water has issued a Blue Green Algae alert for the lake with Bonnie Doon area registering levels three times higher than the safe recreational level. Don’t worry though there are plenty of off lake activities for you to enjoy while you are here so spend some time to explore the other High Country attractions instead.

With the water level still at 76.4% this Xmas /New year has turned out to be a lot bigger than most expected. I was talking to one lady who has been visiting Goughs Bay for 30 years and she claimed she had never seen it like this before.

With all the crowds in the area the boat ramp was the center of attention for most and as expected space was at a premium but with a little patience everyone managed to get into the water and enjoy the activities on lake Eildon much like the old days. With trips to the Jamieson Brewery for lunch or skiing and swimming or fishing.

As of 3:30pm 30th Dec 2010 lake Eildons water level was 76.31%

Which brings it to only 6.38 metres below the full mark! It is still rising which has been a record in terms of the length of the constant rise, however it can’t last forever and should start to level out soon… unless we get more rain.

The sun has finally come out for the summer and has been giving us some great opportunity to make the most of the holiday season on the water.

Plenty of people have been taking advantage of this long awaited moment, with most boat ramps finally having access and plenty of water under the Bonnie Doon bridge there is plenty of water for all to enjoy.

Take care to be safe on the water, be conscious of submerged trees and don’t forget your sunscreen!
