Mansfield Winter Snow Sports

Mount Buller and Mount Stirling – Victoria’s premier snow sports mountains – are less than an hour’s drive from Mansfield.  Tackle some of the most challenging downhill ski runs at Mt Buller, and see if you can spot the gnome home!  Or if you’re an endurance junkie, conquer the cross country ski slopes at Mt Stirling. Mansfield Water Sports

Mansfield is surrounded by lakes and water courses, including the Jamieson, Howqua and upper Goulburn Rivers, Lake Eildon and Lake Nillahcootie.  So if it’s water you love, the possibilities are endless.  Get your adrenaline pumping with waterskiing, wake boarding or jet skiing at Lake Eildon/Nillahcootie, or cool off with a swim.  If you prefer to stay dry, spend an afternoon boating, sailing or canoeing and find a quiet spot to try your luck at fishing.

Walk, Hike or Bike around Mansfield

There are dozens of trails waiting to be discovered in and around Mansfield – the only question is, walk, hike or bike?!

Walk: pick up a town map and learn about the history of Mansfield by visiting the historical sights around town.  Stoll through the botanical gardens, or take on the 20km rail trail from Mansfield to Bonnie Doon by foot.  Bush walk to Allen’s peak for beautiful views of Lake Eildon.

Hike: challenge yourself with a climb up Mt Sterling from the telephone box junction or walk the trails at Mt Buller, where you can enjoy the summer blossoms and reward yourself with a stunning sunset.   Hike or 4WD to the famous Craig’s hut from the Man From Snowy River movie, or see if you can find Fry’s hut on Howqua River.

Bike: avid cyclists can test their limits with a 48km ride to the top of Mt Buller, while mountain bike enthusiasts can take on the downhill and cross country trails.  Or take in the scenic rail trail with a gentler 20km ride to Bonnie Doon.

Drive around Mansfield

Whether you’re into serious 4WDing or relaxed sightseeing, there are loads of options for taking a drive.  Head over to Jamieson to visit the courthouse museum and stop in at the Mansfield Zoo with the family to watch the lions feed.  Take a scenic drive up Mt Buller and enjoy the stunning views at the summit.  Then pop into the Mt Buller museum to learn about the mountain’s transformation from a cattleman’s run into an alpine resort.  You can drive up to the top of the Paps just outside Mansfield for a great lookout point, or get off road on a 4WD tour.  Or simply take your own 4WD or motorbike out for some off road action.
